When Removing a Spot or Stain
1. Never rub a stain on your carpet, this can set it in deeper and cause damage to the carpet fibers. Always blot stains you are trying to remove.
2. Use white absorbent towels or white paper towels to blot your stain. This way you are not transferring any dye from your towel to your carpet, and you are able to tell when your blotting is coming away clean, ensuring that you have removed the stain completely.
3. Clean inwards instead of outwards so that the stain does not spread.
4. Stains such as ink and grease are very stubborn and can smear easily, making a bigger stain and bigger mess. Dry cleaner is one of the best options for these types of stains. When using a stronger type of spot remover, never apply directly to your carpet. Put some on your towel and then apply.
5. To remove a dried solid, break up it up and vacuum, repeating until the stain is gone. Rinse with cool water and blot. To remove semi-solids such as pudding or peanut butter, gently lift and scrape off the excess with a spoon, rinse the rest out and blot dry. |
